Introducing the 2024 George Forster Research Fellowships for Postdoctoral
Applications are now open for the 2024 George Forster Research Fellowship Program.
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awards this fellowship to researchers from developing and emerging countries who demonstrate exceptional qualifications.

The fellowship recognizes the vital role of researchers from these countries in advancing the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals.
It provides sponsorship equivalent to the Humboldt Research Fellowship.
The Georg Forster Research Fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers who completed their doctorates less than four years ago, enabling them to conduct research in Germany for periods ranging from 6 to 24 months.
Selection Criteria:
Candidates are evaluated solely based on their academic qualifications. There are no quotas based on disciplines or countries.
Evaluation criteria include:
— Academic record and performance (mobility, determination, breadth of research activities, academic productivity)
— Quality of key publications (originality, innovation, applicant’s contribution in multiple authorship scenarios)
— Originality and innovation potential of the proposed research project (significance for the discipline’s advancement, choice of academic methods, prospects for academic development, clarity and feasibility within the funding period and at the host institution)

Application Requirements
Requirements for the Georg Forster Research Fellowship include holding a Ph.D. or equivalent obtained within the last four years.
Applicants nearing completion must submit their dissertation manuscript or related publications six months before completion.
Academic publications must meet international standards and be published in reputable journals or by recognized publishers. Research proposals should address significant issues relevant to the candidate’s home country or region.

Applicants must secure research facilities and mentoring from a German academic institution. Language proficiency in German or English is required based on the field of study.
Eligible applicants must be citizens of specified countries and have a long-term residency in an eligible country.
The fellowship supports various research-related expenses and offers additional benefits such as mobility grants, insurance subsidies, and allowances for family members.
