Post-harvest food waste is a critical global issue affecting food security, quality, and market access. In developing regions, lack of affordable solutions exacerbates this problem, wasting food that could nourish millions.
During the Challenge, participants will showcase technologies and data solutions targeting post-harvest food waste. Solutions may focus on:
- Reducing food waste: Technologies to minimize waste from farm to market, including improvements in storage, transportation, and distribution.
- Innovative food preservation: New methods to preserve food freshness and quality, especially in resource-limited settings, to extend shelf life and reduce spoilage.
- Access to nutritious food: Solutions enhancing access in underserved areas by addressing distribution logistics, affordability, and availability of fresh produce.
- Data-driven insights: Use of analytics and IoT to optimize food supply chains, identify waste, and improve resource allocation efficiency.

Eligibility:
— Open to students and entrepreneurs of all ages, genders, backgrounds, geographies, and industries. Individuals or teams can participate.
— No country restrictions, but winners must be eligible to receive prizes and handle any associated taxes.
— Startups and early-stage companies are eligible, complying with local business regulations and laws.

— Teams can consist of 1 to 5 members, with no changes allowed after September 30, 2024, except in special cases approved by the Challenge committee.
— Judges, organizers, volunteers, sponsors, or privileged event personnel cannot be part of participant teams.
Judging Criteria:
— Innovation: Originality and creativity of the idea.
— Viability: Practicality and potential success of implementation.
— Impact: Potential market and societal benefits.
— Presentation: Clarity, persuasiveness, and professionalism of the pitch.
— Team Capability: Ability to execute the proposed plan.
Application:
— Participants must submit a detailed business plan outlining market viability, product/service description, financial projections, and the impact of their solution on reducing post-harvest food waste.
— Entries should focus on reducing waste, improving food preservation, and enhancing access to nutritious food, adaptable to various socio-economic contexts.
— Optional: A short pitch deck (5-7 slides) can accompany the application for additional information.
