About Miles Morland Foundation 2024
The Miles Morland Foundation is currently accepting applications for its Morland Writing Scholarships.
Established by Miles Morland in 2013, the foundation stems from his extensive involvement in Africa through Blakeney Management and DPI.

Balancing writing with earning a living can be challenging for new writers. Each year, the MMF offers a limited number of Morland Writing Scholarships to help writers complete their first drafts of books.

These scholarships are open to individuals born in Africa or those with both parents born there, who write in English.
Grant
Scholars will receive a £18,000 grant, disbursed monthly over twelve months. Scholars writing non-fiction and requiring additional research time may receive an extended grant over eighteen months, subject to the Foundation’s discretion.
Qualifications
Applicants must submit an excerpt of 2,000 – 5,000 words from a published piece written in English, along with clear evidence of its publication and availability for sale.
Submissions will be evaluated based on literary merit by a panel appointed by the MMF.
The scholarships do not support academic or scientific research, religious or political writings, or similar submissions.
Miles Morland Foundation 2024 Scholarship Requirements
The sole condition for Scholars during their Scholarship year is that they must write. They will need to submit at least 10,000 new words per month via email until they complete their book or their Scholarship term concludes.

If they finish the first draft of their book before the year ends, payments will continue as they edit and refine their work.
Submission Guidelines
— Submit a Word document containing between 2,000 to 5,000 words of published work available for sale.
— Provide proof of publication and evidence of sales.
— Include a 400 to 1,000-word description of the new book you plan to write.
— Provide a scan of an official document showing that you or at least one of your parents were born in Africa.
— Include a brief biography of 200 to 300 words.
— Please indicate how you learned about the Morland Writing Scholarships.
