Introducing the 2025/2026 Radcliffe Institute Fellowship at Harvard University
Applications are now open for the 2025/2026 Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program at Harvard University.
The program offers 50 fellowships each academic year. Applicants can apply individually or as a group of two working on the same project.
We seek diversity across various dimensions, including discipline, career stage, race and ethnicity, country of origin, gender and sexual orientation, and ideological perspective.

Requirements
Applicants in the humanities and social sciences must:
- Hold a doctorate (or an appropriate terminal degree) in the field of their proposed project, obtained at least two years before their fellowship appointment (by December 2023 for the 2025-26 fellowship year). Terminal degrees include PhD, MD, and JD.
- Have published a monograph or at least two articles in refereed journals or edited collections.
Applicants in science, engineering, and mathematics must:
- Hold a doctorate in the field of the proposed project, obtained at least two years before their fellowship appointment (by December 2023 for the 2025-26 fellowship year).
- Have published at least five articles in refereed journals. Most fellows in these fields have published numerous articles.
Applicants in the creative arts must meet the following discipline-specific eligibility requirements:
Film and Video: Applicants must have a body of independent work demonstrating significant achievement. This work should typically have been exhibited in galleries or museums, shown at film or video festivals, or broadcast on television.
Visual Arts: Applicants must provide strong evidence of achievement, including at least five years of professional experience as an artist. This should include participation in several curated group shows and at least two solo exhibitions.
Fiction and Nonfiction: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
a) Have one or more published books;
b) Have a contract for the publication of a book-length manuscript; or
c) Have at least three shorter works (longer than newspaper articles) published.
Poetry: Applicants must have had at least 20 poems or a book of poetry published in the last five years and be in the process of completing a manuscript.
Journalism: Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience as a journalist.
Playwriting: Applicants must have a substantial body of independent work, typically including plays that have been produced or are under option.
Music Composition: While a PhD or DMA is desirable but not required, applicants must demonstrate strong evidence of achievement as a professional artist, including a record of recent performances.
Duration
The fellowship runs from September 2025 to May 2026.
Benefits
Fellows receive a stipend of $78,000, plus an additional $5,000 for project expenses.
If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and your home institution is based in the U.S., you may choose to have your stipend paid through your home institution or directly to you.
