It provides full financial support, including an annual salary of up to €80,000, as well as coverage for travel, accommodation, and dependent expenses for stays abroad surpassing one month. This inclusive assistance renders it appealing for individuals striving to progress in the scientific realm.
Eligibility Requirements for the DAAD PRIME Fellowship Program:
Prospective PhD students from international locations are eligible for this initiative.
To qualify for DAAD Prime Fellowships, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants with exceptional qualifications from all academic fields are eligible to apply.
- Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply.
- Applicants must acknowledge that both the research stay abroad and the return phase to Germany are obligatory components of the program.
- Additionally, applicants residing abroad must express their intention to pursue their research careers in Germany following the completion of the return phase.
- Applicants who hold a permanent employment contract with the prospective host institution for the intended research are not eligible for funding.
- Applicants may apply up to six years after obtaining their doctoral degree.
- They must have completed their doctorate with outstanding results before the start of the funding period.

Benefits of the DAAD PRIME Fellowship Program include:
- Salary: Temporary 18-month employment contract at a German university under pay scale TV-L EG 13 (€70,000 – 80,000). Your specific salary is determined by the university based on your prior work experience.
- Expatriate Allowance: Monthly allowance for the research stay abroad, calculated based on the destination’s area classification and the fellows’ gross income.
- Travel Allowance: PRIME Fellows receive a lump sum travel subsidy from the DAAD for postdoctoral scientists.
- Family Coverage: Spouses and children are eligible if they accompany the fellow for at least one month during the research stay abroad.

Moreover, funding from DAAD includes an 18-month employment contract at a German university along with a 6-month return phase to Germany after a 12-month research stay abroad. During the year abroad, you have the flexibility to mix stays at various research institutes across one or more countries.

- Upon portal registration, generate and download the form for the required letter of recommendation.
- Enter applicant data and upload all other application documents, including the letter of recommendation, to the portal.
- Ensure that all attachments are in PDF format for uploading.
- With the exception of certificates (see below), all documents must be in English, as international reviewers and a global committee conduct the evaluation and selection process.
- Applications submitted before the deadline can be updated until the deadline.
