Introducing the Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellowship 2024/2025: Freelance
Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellowship Program. The Pulitzer Center is accepting applications for its third cohort (2024-2025) of AI Accountability Fellowships.
The AI Accountability Fellowships aim to support comprehensive, impactful reporting projects that investigate the opportunities, harms, regulatory issues, and labor implications associated with AI systems.

The Fellowship program provides selected journalists with financial support, a peer community, mentorship, and training to conduct in-depth reporting on how AI systems are financed, developed, and deployed by corporations, governments, and other influential entities.
Requirements
The Pulitzer Center is seeking eight to ten journalists worldwide to report on the effects of algorithmic and automated systems in their communities.
Both staff and freelance journalists across various platforms (print, radio, video, multimedia) are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be team-oriented, with experience and/or ability to collaborate across newsrooms and international borders.
Applicants should have a strong interest in the societal impact of AI and its global implications.
Journalists must be willing to participate in outreach activities related to their investigations, including events at educational institutions.

Reporters can be based anywhere since the Fellowships are conducted remotely.
Benefits
The Fellowship, lasting ten months, begins in September 2024.
Selected AI Accountability Fellows will receive up to $20,000 to support their reporting projects.
Funds can cover expenses like records requests, travel, data analysis, stipends, and other project-related costs.
Additionally, Fellows will receive mentorship from diverse disciplines and relevant training alongside peers, enhancing the quality of their reporting projects.
