About the African Leadership Academy 2025
African Leadership Academy aims to identify and nurture outstanding young individuals who have the potential to shape the future of our continent.
We are not only looking for students who excel academically but also for those who demonstrate courage, initiative, and the drive to make a positive impact through their innovative ideas and forward-thinking initiatives.
Selection Criteria for African Leadership Academy 2025
The ALA admissions process evaluates each candidate’s leadership potential and fit with our unique diploma program.

Our approach is holistic, considering factors such as intellectual readiness, courage, perseverance, ownership, and interdependence.
We value diversity and strive to build a class with students from various backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. We celebrate differences and encourage students to learn from each other.
Each applicant is assessed individually, and no single factor, except age, will disqualify a candidate. For admission in 2025, applicants must be born on or after September 1, 2004.
1. Intellectual Readiness

ALA students show strong academic achievement and consistent improvement in their secondary education.
They are motivated to learn, set high standards for themselves, and demonstrate the ability to excel in ALA’s challenging curriculum.
They are intellectually curious, seeking knowledge beyond the classroom and embracing every opportunity and challenge to become lifelong learners.
They enjoy tackling unfamiliar problems and new ideas, and they exhibit critical thinking by breaking down complex issues both in and out of the classroom.
2. Courage & Perseverance
Do you take the initiative to try new things and persist even when faced with setbacks?
ALA students are proactive and courageous, tackling challenging tasks that matter to them and not easily discouraged.
They follow through on their commitments, showing resilience and the determination to overcome failures. They are self-driven, taking charge of their own learning and leadership without needing external instructions.

Do you have a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the world?
ALA students are ambitious, setting high goals and striving to achieve them. They are committed to creating positive change, aiming to lead lives of significance where they are remembered for their impact on others.
They are passionate about Africa and aspire to contribute to the continent’s progress.

Are you excited to work and learn alongside other talented young people from across the continent in ALA’s diverse community?
ALA students are resourceful and proactive in seeking help when needed. They are not hesitant to reach out or leverage their networks for support.
