About the Princeton University Princeton in Africa Fellowship Programs
Princeton University is now accepting applications for the 2025 Princeton in Africa (PiAf) Fellowship Programs.

These yearlong fellowships offer opportunities with various organizations across Africa, aiming to promote cross-cultural collaboration, leadership development, and professional growth.
The program places talented individuals in meaningful roles across diverse fields.
The PiAf Fellowship is divided into two programs:
- General Fellowship Program:
— Open to candidates educated at U.S.-accredited institutions.
— Fellows are placed in impactful roles within host organizations throughout Africa.
2 . Nexus Fellowship Program:
— Designed for candidates who are educated and residing in Africa.
— Nexus Fellows work alongside General Fellows at host organizations, fostering mutual learning and cross-cultural exchange.
Host Organizations and Fellowship Placement
Nexus applicants are considered only for positions within Nexus-designated organizations, selected for their impactful work across Africa.
Past Nexus host organizations include:
— African School of Economics, Benin (2023-24)
— Emerging Leaders Foundation Africa, Kenya (2023-24)
— International Livestock Research Institute (2024-25)
— International Rescue Committee, Kenya and Somalia (2023-24, 2024-25)
— Mpala Research Centre, Kenya (2023-24)
— Warc Africa, Ghana (2024-25)
These organizations operate in various sectors such as education, healthcare, research, economic development, and humanitarian aid, offering Fellows significant project involvement and valuable professional experience.
Eligibility Criteria
General Fellowship Program Eligibility
— Applicants must be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2025.
— Must hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree from a U.S.-accredited institution.
— Full professional proficiency in English is required, with additional preference for proficiency in French for specific positions.
— Applicants must be under 35 years old as of August 2026.
— A valid passport through the end of the fellowship year (August 2026) is required.
Nexus Fellowship Program Eligibility
— Open to young professionals or undergraduates graduating by June 2025 from an African institution.
— Must hold an undergraduate or master’s degree (or equivalent) from an African university.
— Applicants must not be enrolled in any graduate or advanced academic programs during the fellowship year.
— Full professional proficiency in English is required, with a preference for proficiency in French for certain positions.

— Applicants must be under 35 years old as of August 2026 and possess a passport valid through the fellowship year.
— Nexus applicants must have citizenship in an African country and be currently residing in an African country (dual U.S. citizens are not eligible).
Fellowship Program Benefits
— On-the-ground expenses: Housing and a living stipend to cover daily needs.
— Visas and work permits: Assistance with securing necessary legal documentation for the fellowship.
— Medical and evacuation insurance: Coverage for medical expenses and medical or security evacuations if needed.
— Pre-departure orientation: A comprehensive session to prepare Fellows for their roles, including housing and meals.
— Mid-year retreat in Africa: An opportunity to regroup, reflect, and share experiences, with housing, meals, and partial travel allowances provided.
How to Apply
To apply, submit your materials through the official Princeton in Africa application portal.
The application package should include:
— Complete Online Application: Fill out and submit the online application form.
— Resume or CV: A concise, two-page document detailing your education, work experience, and relevant skills.
— Unofficial Transcript: Upload a transcript in English and PDF format to the online application.
— Official Transcript: Send directly from your university to the PiAf office via a secure online platform or email. Include an English translation if necessary.
— Letter of Recommendation: Have one letter of recommendation submitted directly by your recommender through the provided online form.
— Proof of University Enrollment (Nexus Applicants Only): Provide an official enrollment verification, a scanned copy of your diploma, or a letter from a university official.
The application deadline for the 2025-26 Princeton in Africa Fellowship Programs is October 27, 2024. All materials must be submitted by this date to be considered.
Please note that PiAf no longer requires an application fee. Incomplete applications will not be accepted, and PiAf cannot confirm receipt of individual materials.
