Introducing the AFAC & Netflix Women in Film Grant Program
Applications are now open for the AFAC and Netflix Women in Film Grant Program, a new initiative designed to support emerging Arab women filmmakers.
This program is a collaborative effort between the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and Netflix, aiming to provide financial assistance and industry support to women in key filmmaking roles.

The grant offers up to $25,000 for the production of short films, with a specific focus on promoting Arab women who are taking on crucial roles such as directors, writers, producers, cinematographers, and editors.
This initiative seeks to elevate the presence and impact of Arab women in the film industry by helping them create short films that resonate within the Arab world and beyond.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must meet the following requirements:
— Women aged between 21 and 28.
— Arab women residing in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates.
— Filmmakers who have directed no more than one short film outside of their academic work.

Applicants may apply individually or as part of a team. Team applications must include at least two heads of department, such as a director and producer or a writer and director, and can include up to five members.
Cinematographers and editors are also encouraged to apply individually to join selected projects.

The grant is open to Arab women filmmakers residing in:
— Egypt
— Jordan
— Kuwait
— Saudi Arabia
— United Arab Emirates
Benefits of the Grants Program
Selected projects will receive financial support of up to $25,000 to cover various stages of film production, including:
— Pre-production
— Shooting
— Post-production
In addition to financial support, filmmakers will gain access to virtual consultations on critical aspects of filmmaking such as scriptwriting and directing.
Post-production support will also be provided in Saudi Arabia to ensure that the final product meets high-quality standards.
How to Apply for the AFAC and Netflix Women in Film Grant
To apply for the grant, follow these steps:
- Apply Online: Applications must be submitted through the official online submission forms. Applications sent via regular mail or email will not be considered.
- Confirmation: After submission, applicants will receive a confirmation email. Ensure that you check your inbox for this confirmation.
- Complete Application: Ensure that your application is complete and includes all required materials. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
- Forms: Use the Project Proposal Form for team applications. Cinematographers and editors applying individually should use the Individual Applicants Form.
