About the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation 2025, you must:
— Be an international student.
— Be enrolled in or currently applying for a graduate program starting in April 2025 at a Japanese graduate school. Both current students and those who have not yet enrolled (including employed individuals) are eligible if they plan to enroll by April 2025.
— Have a strong commitment to serving your home country as part of your future career plans.
— Be a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill, and be willing to attend events organized by the foundation and participate in its alumni network.
— Be able to converse in Japanese, as interviews will be conducted in Japanese.
— Begin the PhD program by the age of 35 or the master’s program by the age of 30 (no exceptions).
— Be enrolled in a program lasting more than 12 months.
Benefits
— ¥230,000 per month for programs lasting 1 to 2 years.
— ¥210,000 per month for programs lasting 3 years.
— ¥180,000 per month for programs lasting 4 to 5 years.

— The scholarship duration is fixed based on the shortest time required to complete the degree and cannot be altered once it begins.
— Applicants whose programs are shorter than one year are ineligible.
— A travel grant to cover expenses for attending international conferences will be provided to scholarship recipients, according to the foundation’s rules.
Required Documents
To apply, candidates must submit the following documents:
— Academic Transcript: Provide transcripts in Japanese or English. If the documents are in another language, include a translation.
— Research Proposal: Complete the proposal using the designated template and write it in Japanese. The MS Word template is available here. Your proposal should cover:
— The research topic and objectives.
— How your research will benefit your home country based on your studies in Japan.
— Your past achievements in research, academics, and social activities.
— Recommendation Letter: Submit a letter of recommendation from a supervisor.
— Admission Documents: Provide documents that prove admission, such as an admission letter or letter of acceptance.
— Certificate of Enrollment: Upload this only if you are currently enrolled in a graduate school.
