Apply now for the 2024 GEEP Youth Innovation Challenge in environmental education.
In collaboration with the Taiwan Ocean Conservation Administration (OCA), GEEP encourages individuals to apply for the 2024 Youth Innovation Challenge (YIC):
Advancing Marine Conservation! This challenge offers young people aged 15–30 worldwide a platform to present their innovative solutions for preserving marine resources.
This year’s focus is on addressing marine issues such as biodiversity loss, marine debris, lack of awareness, and other related challenges, while promoting engagement among people of all ages to safeguard marine environments.
Eligibility Requirements for the GEEP Youth Innovation Challenge:
The Youth Innovation Challenge targets young leaders and innovators aged 15–30.
Your innovative solutions should address one of the following areas, with environmental education being a crucial component:
1. Marine biodiversity and conservation: Strategies for managing, protecting, and/or restoring marine biodiversity to uphold its ecological, cultural, economic, and other values.
2. Marine debris: Efforts to reduce and/or mitigate the impact of marine debris, encompassing monitoring, cleanup, recycling, and community education initiatives.
3. Public-private collaboration: Initiatives fostering collaboration among the private sector, governments, and the public to safeguard marine environments.
This may include proposals for government-corporate partnerships to fulfill corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives, opportunities for civic engagement in government programs, and other endeavors promoting collaboration between public and private sectors.
Benefits
All qualified proposals will undergo evaluation by a panel of experts specializing in environmental education, community engagement, and marine conservation.
A total of 15 finalists will be chosen for the Youth Innovation Challenge (YIC) and will receive the following benefits:- An official YIC finalist certificate.- Recognition on the websites and social media pages of GEEP, NAAEE, and other global partners.- From these 15 finalists, GEEP will choose 3 winners.
Each winner will receive a $1,000 USD prize, along with the aforementioned benefits, and will be invited to the YIC award ceremony at the Taiwan Ocean Conservation Administration’s marine debris conference in September 2024, with all travel expenses covered.
Proposal Process:
Applications must include a brief (3 minutes or less) video pitch showcasing the innovative solution, as well as detailed responses to the provided questions.
Successful proposals will outline how they address marine conservation, biodiversity, debris issues, or utilize public-private collaborations to safeguard marine environments.
Additionally, they should demonstrate innovation, feasibility, and a foundation in effective environmental education (see Selection Criteria below).
Applications must be submitted online through Submittable by Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET).
Winners will be notified by September 2024.
