Makerere University Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program in Uganda
The Foundation renewed its partnership with Makerere University for the second phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, which will run from 2023 to 2034.
This phase of the program will provide 1000 scholarships over a span of 10 years, covering both undergraduate and master’s academic programs at Makerere University’s main campus.
The Foundation Scholars Program is a decade-long global initiative aimed at educating and nurturing the next generation of leaders who will contribute to social and economic progress, especially in Africa.
This program empowers young individuals from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to complete high-quality secondary and tertiary education, facilitating their successful transition to further education or the workforce in their home countries.
Mastercard Foundation Scholarship for Undergraduate
The second phase of the program will provide 1000 scholarships over 10 years for selected undergraduate and master’s academic programs at the Makerere University Main Campus.
Mastercard Foundation Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, applicants must meet the following conditions:
1 The applicant must qualify for admission at Makerere University’s main campus for the Undergraduate Degree Programs under the Private Sponsorship Scheme.
Applicants should apply for admission at Makerere University’s main campus under the Private Sponsorship Scheme (when advertised).
Once admitted to Makerere University’s main campus, your application for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship will be considered for selection processes.
2 Eligible applicants must have completed Advanced level education (or its equivalent) in an African Country.
Mastercard Foundation Scholars are limited to individuals facing significant financial hardship.
3 Applicants must demonstrate leadership potential and a record of community service.
Applicants should not hold any other scholarship or have registered for or completed any other undergraduate degree program.
4 All applicants should not exceed 28 years of age at the time of applying for the scholarship.
5 Applicants under the categories of refugees and students with disabilities should not exceed 32 years of age at the time of applying for the scholarship.
A refugee applicant must be a recognized and registered refugee with proof (refugee attestation) attached to the application form.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at Makerere University, you must meet the following conditions:
1 Qualify for admission at Makerere University-Main Campus for the Master’s Degree Programme.
Applicants should apply for admission at Makerere University, only those admitted shall be considered eligible for the Scholarship Selection process.
Have completed Bachelor’s Degree Studies in an African Country, Faced significant financial hardships.
4 Demonstrate leadership potential and a record of community service.
Not hold any other Scholarship , Not have registered for or completed any other master’s studies.
5 Not exceed 35 years of age at the time of the application deadline, except for refugees and students with disabilities, who should not exceed 40 years.
6 If a refugee, be recognized and registered refugee with proof attached to the application form.
Note:
– Up to 70% of the scholarship opportunities will be awarded to female applicants, with 30% to male applicants, further categorized.
– Up to 25% of the scholarships will be awarded to refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Young people in this category are encouraged to apply.
– Incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.
– The program operates on merit principles and has zero tolerance for dishonesty.
Any form of influence peddling will lead to automatic disqualification.

The program aims to enhance inclusive university education and empower youth to become leaders contributing meaningfully to national and regional development.
Only students meeting the minimum requirements for admission to Makerere University
Main Campus from the specified categories in the advertisement are eligible to apply.
Completed forms can be submitted through one of the following options:
1. Hand-deliver the hard copy form to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University Offices located at Plot 144, Pool Road, Makerere University.
2. Send it as an attachment via email to makscholarsapplications@gmail.com.
3. Apply directly online (Link provided at the bottom).
4 Only candidates who are short-listed will be contacted for further selection procedures.
5 Please be aware that the application form is not available for purchase, and no payments should be made by applicants at any stage of the selection process.
