Applications are now open for the 2024 Journalism Programs for Africa at Deutsche Welle (DW).
Deutsche Welle, a prominent international broadcaster, is looking for talented multimedia journalists proficient in English to join their dynamic team in Africa.
These positions are available in three vibrant locations:
Abuja, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; and Nairobi, Kenya. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2024, or earlier if possible. Successful candidates will be offered freelance contracts lasting two years.

DW’s English for Africa Desk seeks talented multimedia journalists passionate about storytelling and adept at capturing news in compelling video formats.
Ideal candidates will excel at producing engaging news stories and reports directly from the field.
Whether your expertise lies in breaking news or crafting feature stories, DW welcomes individuals who can contribute unique perspectives and talents.
Multimedia journalists in this role will report from the field, requiring readiness to work in Abuja, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; or Nairobi, Kenya.

Join DW’s English for Africa team to share crucial stories and shape impactful narratives in the region. This role offers a freelance contract with a duration of two years.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should also demonstrate:
— Proficiency in using social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook) for news gathering
— Strong analytical skills to interpret social media trends and issues
— Strong digital media skills and experience in creating various formats
— Exceptional narrative abilities for texts and videos of varying lengths, with the ability to propose unique topics; familiarity with Adobe Premiere is advantageous.
— Comprehensive understanding of Africa’s political, social, economic, and cultural landscape today
— Broad knowledge of current events and international politics; familiarity with Germany and Europe’s political, economic, and cultural context
— Respect for diversity, high intercultural sensitivity, and the ability to collaborate effectively in diverse, interdisciplinary teams
— Excellent command of English, with proficiency in at least one other relevant language; fluency in German is a bonus
