Applications are now open for the Poland Government Stefan Banach Scholarship.
The program aims to support the socio-economic development of developing countries by offering scholarships for master’s degree studies in Polish or English at Polish universities.
These studies are overseen by the Minister of Education and Science and focus on engineering and technical sciences, agricultural sciences, natural sciences, and life sciences.
Citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply for the NAWA scholarship: Albania, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Palestine, Peru, the Philippines, Senegal, Serbia, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Additionally, citizens of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Montenegro, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan have the opportunity to pursue master’s degree studies in humanities and social sciences through the program, excluding philological studies in their native languages.
It’s important to note that this program is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, and it is provided as part of Polish development aid.

Eligibility Criteria for the Poland Government Stefan Banach Scholarship
Foreigners who meet all of the following criteria at the time of the call for proposals may apply for a scholarship through the program:
- Are citizens of one of the following countries: Albania, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Montenegro, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Colombia, Kosovo, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, South Africa, Senegal, Serbia, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, or Vietnam.
- Do not hold Polish citizenship and have not applied for Polish citizenship.
- Plan to begin second-cycle studies or a preparatory course during the 2022-23 academic year.
- At the time of applying to the program, are in the final year of first-cycle studies in engineering and technical sciences, agricultural sciences, or exact and natural sciences, or have a first-cycle studies diploma in these fields obtained in a program country no earlier than 2020. For candidates from Europe, Central Asia, and the South Caucasus, first-cycle studies diplomas in social sciences and humanities are also accepted.
- Have not obtained a diploma from a second-cycle or long-cycle master’s program. If the candidate’s country of origin does not commonly use a two-cycle study system, candidates with a master’s degree or its equivalent will be admitted.
- Have documented knowledge of the a) Polish language: Minimum proficiency at level A2 is required if the applicant plans to start with a one-year preparatory course before continuing to second-cycle degree studies in Polish. Alternatively, a minimum proficiency at level B1 is required if the applicant plans to directly enter second-cycle studies in Polish without completing the preparatory course.
b) English language: Proficiency at level B2 is required for applicants intending to pursue studies in English.

When applying for a program, keep in mind that 40% of the decision is based on a recommendation from a diplomatic mission, non-governmental organization, or university.
The remaining 60% is determined by the average grades from your undergraduate studies, as indicated on your diploma or a certificate showing your GPA.
Citizens from the listed countries are eligible to apply for the NAWA scholarship:
Albania, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Palestine, Peru, the Philippines, Senegal, Serbia, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
The recipients of the Poland Government Stefan Banach Scholarship will receive:
- PLN 1700 per month during the preparatory course. However, scholarship recipients will not have student status, thus forfeiting student discounts, such as those for public transport.
- PLN 1,500 per month during second-cycle studies.
During their studies, scholarship recipients will also receive:
- In the first year of studies, the initial monthly scholarship will be increased by PLN 500.
- In the final year of studies, the last monthly scholarship will be increased by PLN 500.
If a documented fortunate event occurs, the NAWA Director may, upon written request from the scholarship holder, increase the scholarship by PLN 500 once.
The university or institution conducting the course will provide the funding for the additional scholarship amount, as determined by the NAWA Director.
