About the World Bank ICSID Internship
ICSID offers internship opportunities to highly motivated students who are currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.
The World Bank ICSID Internship is a unique opportunity to contribute to a leading institution dedicated to resolving international investment disputes.
The program provides students with an interest in international investment dispute settlement and international investment law a comprehensive understanding of ICSID’s work, supports their academic and career goals, and offers a chance to bring innovative ideas and research experience to further ICSID’s mission.

To achieve this goal, the World Bank ICSID Internship seeks enthusiastic and energetic candidates who can work effectively in a team environment.
Application deadlines are as follows:
— June 30 for the September-December internship period (fall semester)
— October 15 for the January-April internship period (spring semester)
— February 15 for the May-August internship period (summer semester)
Eligibility Requirements for the World Bank ICSID Internship
To be considered for the World Bank ICSID Internship, you must:
— Be enrolled in a graduate program.
— Provide written confirmation that you will either:
(i) Obtain academic credit for at least one term/semester of your studies, or
(ii) Receive a stipend from your university for the duration of the internship.
Candidates must also have or be able to obtain an F1 or G4 visa, or be U.S. citizens or residents (Green Card holders), and be able to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and living expenses in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, ICSID recommends that selected interns obtain medical insurance for the duration of the internship.
Candidates should also ensure they meet their university’s requirements for internships, and are encouraged to confirm eligibility for the specific internship period with their university before applying.
Benefits and Duration of the Program
The program offers up to six internships every four months. Each internship lasts a minimum of 12 weeks, requiring at least 10 hours of work per week.
The internship periods are September to December, January to April, and May to August. Internships are based at the Centre’s office in Washington, D.C., unless restricted by COVID-19.

Interns are not paid but can receive academic credit upon successful completion or may be sponsored by their university.
Selection Process for World Bank ICSID Internship
Interns are selected competitively and must meet the following minimum requirements:
— Demonstrated interest and knowledge in investor-State dispute settlement and international investment law.
— Current third-year law student (3L), LLM, or Ph.D. student.
— Fluency in English and preferably at least one of ICSID’s other official languages (French or Spanish).
— Ability to conduct research on arbitration and investment law issues.
— Strong writing and legal drafting skills.
